Coldplay legen 2021 ihren modernen Festtagsklassiker »Christmas Lights« noch einmal auf Vinyl auf.
Es handelt sich dabei um eine schwarze, recycelte 7ʺ-Single. Auf der B-Seite ist Coldplays Version von »Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas« zu hören, die Ende 2000 für eine Live-Session mit Jo Whiley bei BBC Radio 1 aufgenommen wurde.
»Christmas Lights« erschien ursprünglich am 1. Dezember 2010 als digitaler Download. Chris Martin schrieb den Song jedoch bereits im Dezember 2008. Und schon am Morgen, nachdem er mit dem Songwriting begonnen hatte, gab er einen Ausschnitt davon in einer amerikanischen Nachrichtensendung zum Besten.
Der Weihnachtssong erreichte Platz 13 in den UK-Single-Charts, Platz 25 in den USA und Platz 26 in Deutschland. Die höchsten Platzierungen gab es in Ungarn mit Platz eins und Italien mit Platz zwei.
Eine physische Version von »Christmas Lights« veröffentlichten Coldplay Ende 2020, um das zehnjährige Jubiläum des Songs zu feiern. Sie erschien damals als limitierte blaue 7ʺ-Single, war aber schnell vergriffen.
